Decisions

When I graduated from high school, I started to study Electrical Civil Engineering. As I had previously studied Telecommunications in a technical school, my first option was to study Engineering, in spite of not knowing the labor field.

Being in that career I realized that it was not what I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. In spite of loving the study of mathematics and finding fascinating the courses I could study, the possibilities of work I would have once my studies were completed were not to my liking.

After much thought, especially considering the time I would lose, I decided to leave Electrical Engineering career and think better about what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

After some time, I realized that actually the dream of my life always was to be a scientist. I had always loved chemistry, despite never having had the opportunity to deepen my knowledge in this area. And, as one of my life goals was to help improve the living conditions of people, I decided that the best option was to study Chemistry and Pharmacy.

Upon entering the career of Chemistry and Pharmacy I realized that it really was what I liked. Each subject seemed fascinating to me. Working in the laboratory is one of the things I love most in my life. I feel happy and full studying this race. Then I understood that this time my decision was the right one.

Two special songs

Music is essential in my life. It is, maybe, the most loyal company in all moment. Music means an advice, a consolation, an instant of joy, according to context. As far back as I can remember I felt attracted for rock music. In part, that is because of my dad, who tuned in to Radio Futuro (88.9 FM in Chile) all my life long. For that reason I know a lot of rock songs, mainly from 80's and 90's. My favourite band is Faith No More. I remember I have been fascinated since the first time I listened "Ashes to ashes" on the radio, in 1997. Since that moment I waited patiently the opportunity to record this song in a tape. This particular song means a feeling of freedom for me (further the lyrics, the melodies of this song makes me feel like any negative thing in my life be forgotten when sounds the last note). Postgraduate studies

One of my life goals is to live  out of Chile in future, in some country where quality of life is considerately better. It's even better if this country have a real welfare society. And, if is possible, I would like to study a PhD degree in this country. In particular, I really am attracted to University of Toronto’s Pharmaceutical Sciences PhD program, in Biomolecular Pharmaceutical Sciences. This PhD program has many aspects that interest me. For example, you can specialize in biopharmaceuticals study, an up to date subject in the rest of the world, but not much developed in Chile. If I get this PhD degree, I would research about new biopharmaceuticals development, and this field of activity likes me so much. Other very interesting fields of study are: “Basic pharmacokinetics and clinical research”,” Polymeric and nanomaterial-based drug delivery systems” and “Drug receptor interactions”. Even though this PhD program has different ways of entering, I interest by “P...

Changes to my study program

Hi everyone! This is our last blog session, so I want to take this opportunity to say goodbye. It has been a pleasure to read your posts and comments. The career of Chemistry and Pharmaceuticals in this university has had many changes, principally with study program changes. Like all change, there are modifications that mean important advances in the professional development of the students, while another changes, I think, are a setback. One of the things I didn’t like about study program changes is the omission of teacher Hernan Vergara’s subjects.   Teacher Vergara’s subjects (who’s actually retired), promoted the basic knowledge of our profession in the first career years. Matters as concepts of medicines, their classification and effects, therapies and related laws are basic knowledge that all students must to know. And, of course, I think all the students must to know about the History of Pharmacy, with the most important landmarks. Among the good study progr...
