Lots of opinions...

I think tattoos (mostly) are beautiful expressions of art that complement people and their identity.

I think getting a tattoo is a very serious issue because, although they are not "forever" as before and the tattooing techniques have advanced enough that it is not an immediate risk to health, tattooing involves serious skin damage. Obviously, removing a tattoo implies even more serious damage. For these reasons, it is good to think about what to tattoo and why, before doing it.

In my particular case, I could not get a tattoo. Sometimes I have thought about it; however, it is very likely that if I do I will end up repentant. There is no concept, figure or other that represents me enough to want to wear it on my skin with pride for the rest of my life.

Usually, legalization of the called "hard drugs" is the initial step in states which really wants to have control over drug trafficking. To include them in the legislation does not imply their authorization of indiscriminate use: it means recognizing that they exist, they affect society in their different socioeconomic strata, and that all necessary measures must be taken for their effective control.

Currently, legislation existing in Chile usually punishes the consumption of hard drugs, but does not allow to take important actions for its control. Investigations usually stop at the consumer, without going further. Only in a few occasions are large operations carried out, with considerable seizures, but that in the long run have no impact on the communities.

Recycling is becoming a fundamental process for human survival. It is imperative that we begin to reuse our waste to reduce the impact of our presence on this planet, avoiding destroying nature unnecessarily.

There are countries that have been recycling their garbage for many years, and implementing laws against the manufacture of single-use products.

In Chile (and probably in other Latin American countries) it is known that the "barras bravas" are a kind of "armed arm" and "cheap labor" in some special circumstances. For example, hooligans are who carry out propaganda work in the streets, installing "palomas", posters, painting murals, etc., before the electoral processes. They are those who are confronted by the occupation of places, by the destruction of rival propaganda, among other acts of violence.
“Barras bravas” are usually micro and drug trafficking lids, acts of crime and violence in general that are far from the sports spirit that, it is supposed, should frame professional football.

Postgraduate studies

One of my life goals is to live  out of Chile in future, in some country where quality of life is considerately better. It's even better if this country have a real welfare society. And, if is possible, I would like to study a PhD degree in this country. In particular, I really am attracted to University of Toronto’s Pharmaceutical Sciences PhD program, in Biomolecular Pharmaceutical Sciences. This PhD program has many aspects that interest me. For example, you can specialize in biopharmaceuticals study, an up to date subject in the rest of the world, but not much developed in Chile. If I get this PhD degree, I would research about new biopharmaceuticals development, and this field of activity likes me so much. Other very interesting fields of study are: “Basic pharmacokinetics and clinical research”,” Polymeric and nanomaterial-based drug delivery systems” and “Drug receptor interactions”. Even though this PhD program has different ways of entering, I interest by “P...

Decisions

When I graduated from high school, I started to study Electrical Civil Engineering. As I had previously studied Telecommunications in a technical school, my first option was to study Engineering, in spite of not knowing the labor field. Being in that career I realized that it was not what I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. In spite of loving the study of mathematics and finding fascinating the courses I could study, the possibilities of work I would have once my studies were completed were not to my liking. After much thought, especially considering the time I would lose, I decided to leave Electrical Engineering career and think better about what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. After some time, I realized that actually the dream of my life always was to be a scientist. I had always loved chemistry, despite never having had the opportunity to deepen my knowledge in this area. And, as one of my life goals was to help improve the living conditions of people...

Changes to my study program

Hi everyone! This is our last blog session, so I want to take this opportunity to say goodbye. It has been a pleasure to read your posts and comments. The career of Chemistry and Pharmaceuticals in this university has had many changes, principally with study program changes. Like all change, there are modifications that mean important advances in the professional development of the students, while another changes, I think, are a setback. One of the things I didn’t like about study program changes is the omission of teacher Hernan Vergara’s subjects.   Teacher Vergara’s subjects (who’s actually retired), promoted the basic knowledge of our profession in the first career years. Matters as concepts of medicines, their classification and effects, therapies and related laws are basic knowledge that all students must to know. And, of course, I think all the students must to know about the History of Pharmacy, with the most important landmarks. Among the good study progr...
